As part of the 2019 bond projects, the new Katherine Johnson Elementary School will be the district’s first new elementary school in over a decade. It will be approximately 76,000 SF and is designed for 700 students with provisions for four future portables (eight classrooms) to allow for future student population growth.

When the population increases, additional classroom space will be needed. These spaces have been planned and located as part of the design process for the new elementary.

The location for the new facility on the site was determined through careful site evaluation and discussion with the Educational Specification Team. The building will be a two-story structure which will allow more land area to accommodate the planned future growth.

In designing the site circulation, care was taken to separate bus traffic from car traffic generated by parents, visitors, and staff. Additional site features include a soccer and softball field intended for school and community use as well as soft and hard-surface play areas and a separate covered play building.
